Keeping up with local and global news is an important part of a student’s routine, helping to develop insight and wisdom. While many will be familiar with the usual Western outlets, here are a few alternatives that offer another perspective:
- Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) — the official news agency of the Islamic Republic of Iran, established in 1934.
- Mehr News Agency — a semi-official outlet established in 2003 with one of the widest news coverages in Iran, providing political, social and economic stories in six languages.
- Fars News Agency — established in 2003 and considered a semi-official outlet.
- Khamenei.ir — the official website of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Sayyid Ali Khamenei, centred on the Leader’s speeches, meetings and visits.
- Tasnim News Agency — established to “defend the Islamic Revolution against negative media propaganda campaigns and provide readers with realities on the ground about Iran and Islam”.
- AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA) — a truly international outlet with 27 language options and news from around the world, focusing on stories relevant to all Muslims.
