Prices, timings and rules in Qum change often, and readers on the ground frequently know before we do. The comment box on each page exists so you can tell us. This page explains what happens to what you send.
Everything Is Read by a Person First
Nothing you submit appears on the site automatically. Every contribution goes into a queue and is read by a moderator before it is published or rejected. We aim to look at the queue within three working days.
Published contributions are not independently verified. We check that a contribution is plausible, relevant and safe to publish — not that it is correct. The guidance in the page itself remains our own record. Treat a reader report as a useful signal to check something, not as a substitute for checking it.
What We Publish
Corrections and updates to what a page already says: a fare that has gone up, an office that has moved, opening hours that have changed, a procedure that now needs an extra document. The more specific you can be about what changed, where, and when you saw it, the more useful it is and the more likely it is to be published.
What We Cannot Publish
These are firm rules, not case-by-case judgements. A contribution will be rejected if it:
- is spam, or promotes a business, service or listing;
- names and criticises an individual or a business — including landlords, agents, teachers, shops and clinics;
- is political commentary, or comments on named officials;
- is security-sensitive — anything that could put a person, a building or a community at risk;
- presents an unverifiable claim about money, law, visas or residency as established fact;
- is abusive, or sectarian;
- is off-topic for the page it was left on, or duplicates an existing contribution;
- contains links, or personal contact details.
Anything alleging misconduct by a named person or institution is not a moderator's decision. It is escalated, and it defaults to rejection.
We do not publish a reason alongside a rejection, and we cannot enter into correspondence about individual decisions. If you think a rule has been applied wrongly, write to us at comments@sios.ac and say so.
What We Do With Your Details
- Name or nickname — optional. If you give one it is published beside your contribution. If you do not, it appears anonymously. Please do not use someone else's name.
- Email address — optional, and never published. We use it only if we need to ask you one question about your contribution before deciding on it. It is never passed to anyone else and never used to contact you about anything else.
- IP address — recorded automatically with every submission, to detect abuse and repeated spam. It is never published.
Rejected contributions are deleted after 90 days. An IP address is kept only while the contribution it belongs to is live, plus 90 days.
Having Something Removed
Because contributions are anonymous, you cannot delete your own once it is published — we have no way to confirm it was yours. Instead, write to comments@sios.ac, quote the page and the contribution, and tell us what you would like removed. We will honour reasonable requests, including from someone who is named in a contribution they did not write.
