Motorbikes

Agile, cheap and everywhere — why motorbikes suit Qum's streets, and the safety risks to weigh before you ride.

Motorbikes are a common sight on the streets of Qum, offering a convenient and agile way to get around. Their ability to thread through narrow streets and crowded areas makes them well suited to urban commuting, letting riders bypass traffic jams and reach their destinations more quickly. Parking is relatively easy to find on the street, even where there are no designated areas — though theft can be a concern, so use a secure lock when leaving your bike unattended. They are also cost-effective, with lower fuel and maintenance costs than cars.

Despite these advantages, motorbikes carry real safety risks. Riders are more vulnerable to accidents and injuries — particularly given the driving culture in Iran and the limited enforcement of traffic laws. In short, motorbikes are a practical and efficient way to get around Qum quickly, but with a greater risk of injury. For more on the road environment, see Driving in Iran.
